CONSULAR SERVICES

 

The Lisbon Consular Section is part of the Maltese Embassy in Lisbon.  The Consulate ensures the interest of Maltese nationals visiting or residing in Portugal. The Consulate is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 0900hrs to 1300hrs and from 1400hrs to 1600hrs.

 

1. Passports

 

Maltese citizens residing in Portugal, The Autonomous Region of the Azores and Madeira can apply for a new passport through the Embassy.  Citizens not residing in mainland may refer to the consulate in their region. Please note that applicants may need to attend an interview. It is advisable that an appointment is set up with the consular officer as soon as possible. All forms need to be duly filled in together with all supporting documents.

If any of the requirements are not met, we will be unable to process your application .

 

We aim to process all routine passports within 10 to 14 days from receipt of a fully completed application form.

 2. Citizenship

Applications for citizenship may be collected from this Embassy. You will need to set up an appointment for an interview with your consular officer. It is advisable that applicants have in hand a filled in and signed application form together with supporting documents ready to be presented at your interview.

3.  Notarial Services

 

Legalization

 

Legalization of public documents can be done at this Embassy. Documents may be sent by registered mail or  delivered by hand .

 

Birth/Marriage/Death Certificates

 

Notarial services are provided at this Embassy

 

 

4. What to do when things are wrong.

 

Stolen Passports

 

Please report  the stolen document immediately. Make sure that you collect police report and have it hand to forward to the Embassy.  You will need to contact this Embassy for further instructions and for issuance of a new passport or emergency document. Applications for citizenship may be collected from this Embassy. You will need to set up an appointment for an interview with your consular officer. It is advisable that applicants have in hand a filled in and signed application form together with supporting documents ready to be presented at your interview.
